Everyone really enjoyed the show and learned about how helpful reading can be in our everyday lives. It was lovely to see the characters of a book come to life in such a funny and captivating performance.

The three little pigs
We learned about the story of 'The three little pigs'.
Then we continued to use our knowledge of circles to draw the pigs and their houses. We talked about the best materials (straw, sticks or bricks) to use for building a strong house.
During maths we had fun building houses for the three little pigs made out of sticks and learned about 2D shapes.

Pumphouse theatre trip - The Great White Man Eating Shark

We went on our first class trip to the Pumphouse theatre in Takapuna to watch ' The great white man eating shark', story by Margaret Mahy. Students were super excited to get on the bus and engaged throughout the play. After the play finished we got to take pictures with the actors.When we got back to school we ended our day discussing the funny moments in the play and made our own shark finger puppets!😃😃
Celebrating Matariki

Students learned the Matariki song and learned about how Matariki came to be. Students from Room1 helped us to make some beautiful Matariki stars to hang around our classroom.
The Human Body - Digestive system

Left: Used bread (food) and vinegar (gastric juice) to understand what happens to our food in the large intestine. They enjoyed the experiment and certainly will remember the smell of it ! :D
Right: We did some more practice with labelling the different parts of our bodies in Maori and English. Students did a great job recollecting the parts of the body and really enjoyed identifying the parts.

We had fun learning to make fairy bread. We talked about the order of steps and materials required to make fairy bread. Students then wrote about their experience of making fairy bread.

We started doing buddy reading on Fridays with some of the senior students from LS2. Room 4 students really enjoyed reading to the older students and also learned about how to share some of their learning on our class blog.

Students got to experiment with different sized containers and compare the capacity of water in them.
They were successfully able to distinguish between full, half full, nearly empty, nearly full and full.
